Location: Madison Square Garden, New York
The New York Knicks (officially the Knickerbockers) is the city‘s NBA team, one of only 2 charter members of the National Basketball Association that are still in their original cities.
The team was named for the Dutch character that became synonymous with the city of New York in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and was chosen by team owners and officials when the Knicks franchise was born in 1946.
The Knicks were one of the best teams in early organized basketball, having played for the NBA title three times during the 1950s.
The 70s were considered the team‘s golden era, when they boasted such fabulous players as Bill Bradley, Walt Frazier, and Willis Reed. In the 1990s, center Patrick Ewing led the team to the finals two times.
It‘s easy for families visiting New York City to enjoy watching the Knicks as their games are conveniently located at Madison Square Garden, within easy walking distance of many midtown hotels. Kids will love the high-scoring action of basketball and the New York team is always an exciting one to watch.
