Overview:

Central Park SummerStage's goal of bringing the fine arts to the diverse neighborhoods of New York City comes alive every summer when it presents numerous concerts all summer long throughout various NYC locations. The program is the brainchild of the City Parks Foundation, the only independent nonprofit organization to offer park programs throughout the five boroughs of New York City, working in over 700 parks citywide.

These outstanding performances are free of charge and are specifically designed for the neighborhoods in which they take place.

Most are designed for audiences of all ages and reflect the population or background of the area is which the concert is staged.

The concerts also feature a number of emerging artists from NYC's diverse ethnic communities in hopes of promoting their talents.

The concerts take place from early June through the end of August and a number of benefit concerts are also staged in order to raise funds to help maintain this worthwhile program. Artists for this year's Central Park SummerStage benefits include Lyle Lovett and Elvis Costello.
